The History of Our Development
IWNC started as a small outdoor training company operating south of Tokyo, and has evolved into a human resource consulting and training company with offices throughout Asia. The name “I Will Not Complain” has its origin in expeditions to the jungles of Papua New Guinea, the mountains of Africa and the deserts of China. A code of conduct developed on these expeditions which the teams discovered helped them along on their journeys. Later, when the company was founded in 1988, its name was chosen from this adventure heritage, to underline our mission of inspiring people to achieve breakthrough business results.

Below is a history of some of our the milestones in our development.

1988–1992 … How we started the company in Japan…

The company was founded in Japan in 1988 as the first Japanese experiential training company. We focused on building individual self-confidence and team relationships through experiential outdoor training (e.g. ropes courses,climbing walls, overnight hikes). Our tradition of campfire discussions began at this time.

1993–1997 … Becoming the first training company in China …

In 1994, the IWNC Beijing office opened as the first International training company in China. The following year we opened the Great Wall Courtyard in Jinshanling within sight of the Great Wall of China. This was closely followed by the opening of the Shanghai office in 1996, and the Hong Kong office in 1997.

During this period, IWNC began working with senior leadership teams to facilitate the development of their organization’s mission, vision and values.

1998–2002 … Expanding into an Asia-wide people development company …

In 1998, our Singapore office opened, followed by the Taipei office in 1999. Our pioneering efforts in training in China were recognized as IWNC became the first winner of the “China Trainer of the Year” award in 1998.

During this period, IWNC began assisting organizations with performance management improvement by using assessment tools and skill development programs to objectively evaluate and improve organization, team, and individual effectiveness.

2003–Present … Meeting increasingly complex needs of clients in Asia

In 2004, IWNC further extended its regional network by opening an office in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Our services have further evolved to meet additional client needs for assistance related to mergers, acquisitions and corporate restructuring. In addition, IWNC has developed comprehensive programs for Developing Leaders for the Future as well as its own assessment tools for measuring leadership, team and organization effectiveness.
